Several factors make
the geographical region of Israel, Jordan and the Sinai one of the
most interesting places in the world for nature lovers:
- Latitude 30-N, which is considered to be the
northern border of the global desert zone of
the northern hemisphere, crosses Israel, Jordan and the Sinai.
This fact along with the proximity of the Mediterranean and the
Red Sea explain the region’s diverse climate.
- Israel-Jordan-Sinai is the meeting point between Africa,
Asia and the Arabian Subcontinent. (See
Map-in flash site) Israel lies in direct proximity to Southern
Europe. Four main phytogeographical regions meet together in Israel:
The Mediterranean, the Irano-Turanian, the Saharo-Arabian and
the Sudanian. In high and wet areas there are numerous species
of Euro-Siberian origin. The result is an enormously diverse
vegetation.
- The Red-Sea, the Gulf of ‘Aqaba and the `Arava-Jordan-Rift
have been ever since their development in the Miocen, the passageway
of African plants, animals, and humans. Some of the plants
and of the animals are to this day part of the flora and fauna
of Israel and Jordan. Today the passage way is used twice yearly
by millions of birds, migrating between Eastern
Europe and East Africa.
The result of all these facts is, that there is
probably no other region on Earth, as in the triangle of Israel,
Jordan and the Sinai, where in such a narrow space, so many diversely
contradicting landscapes, flora and fauna exist
and mingle.
Our Nature Tours try to show the beauty and the
diversity of natural phenomena and to understand the processes
that have formed them. In a deeper sense, we make an attempt
to look at individual landscapes from an anthropocentric point of
view and to understand them, as the momentary balance
of a complex of diverse processes and influences, some purely natural
and the others involving human activity.
We, at S.K. Tours in Nature, have 30 years of
experience in operating desert tours with an emphasis on nature
elements. We are located in Israel. Most of our
groups are in the Sinai and Jordan.
As seen from a bird’s eye the region of Israel,
Jordan and the Sinai is one geographical unit and we relate to it
this way. (See
