Relatively unexplored by the western
traveler the peninsula of southern Sinai offers you
some of the most beautiful and most interesting treks in the world.
During the 1970’s, we, the founders of S.K. Tours in
nature, were among the first to explore and develop the trekking
routes in the High
Mountain range of the Sinai and several years later in
the sand stone region of
Eastern Sinai.
We established a system of trekking tours based on the
tradition and abilities of the local Bedouin population
on one hand and on the practical know how and theoretical knowledge
of the best trekking guides.
This system has been operating for 30 years and has gained its reputation
for well-planned, safe and professional trekking tours. Many hundreds
of trekkers who have enjoyed an exceptional experience on these
special and yet relatively unknown treks are the witnesses of the
magnificence of this region and the professionalism of the trekking
system.
What is a Sinai trek?
- A trek in the Sinai is a journey during which the traveler makes
a daily hike from one camp to the next carrying only what is needed
for the day (such as water bottle, camera etc.). The personal
gear and the camp gear are taken from one night camp to the next
by camels.
- A trek in the Sinai, for most of our past trekkers, has been
a once in a lifetime experience. More than once we have heard
a trekker say at the end of the trek that such an experience would
be a turning point in his/ her life.
- A trek in the Sinai with us, is an adventure based on years
of our professional experience, led by a trained trekking guide
well versed in the history, geology archeology and biology of
the desert.
The Sinai - An ideal trekking region!
- A camel
caravan is part of the tradition of the Bedouin tribes in
the Sinai. Operating the Sinai treks by camel caravans, with Bedouin
camel drivers, cooks and mountain guides gives you, the traveler,
a real desert experience, with the trekking group as part of the
local ecology.
- The geographical structure of the Sinai creates different climates
in different regions and therefore enables the planning of ideal
treks for all seasons. The High
mountain range is an ideal region for summer treks (April
to September) while the lower region of Eastern Sinai is ideal
for winter treks (October to March). See Climate

- The local Bedouin population has its influence on the landscape
and thus on our ability to choose places for pleasant, romantic
and pastoral night camps. In the High Range many of the night
camps are in the Bedouin gardens. In Eastern Sinai some of the
night camps are in charming oases.
- The Sinai landscape is varied. Each day is different in its
character. The trek is full of surprises. It is not the desolate
plateau that you imagine for a desert. Mountains, canyons, dunes,
oases, Bedouin gardens, colored sandstone and granite cliffs are
just a few of the breath-taking views that you will see and experience
along the treks.
- Something in ''the air'' of the Sinai makes this place different
from anywhere else. Is it the religious history of the place?
Is it the powerful geographical position of the meeting point
between Africa and Asia? Or is it perhaps the bewitching ghost
stories of the Bedouin?
- We do not advocate any mystical ideas. We just invite you to
experience the uniqueness of the Sinai.
